The Mindset that Beats 'Motivation'

We're going to be really honest with you…

Sometimes...

It’s not your plan that 'isnt working'
Or you have no discipline around food.
It’s not even your easily bored in your training split.

Most of the time, it’s your mindset, self talk and intrinsic drive.

Let's start by clarifying...

One meal, one missed session, one busy day… none of that ruins your progress.

You’re not off track.
You just need your next decision to be a better one.

So don't call it quits after one off day. This is an all or nothing mindset.

...You Don’t Need Motivation

You’re not always going to feel like it. And that’s normal (and expected!)

The shift happens when you stop waiting to feel motivated and start showing up anyway because you want to work towards FUTURE YOU.

So... think delayed gratification. Acting on how you want to feel not how you currently feel.

Practical Ways to Build a Better Mindset

This is where things actually change. Not just thinking differently, but doing things that support you.

1. Start journaling (keep it super simple, not overwhelming)

You don’t need pages and pages.

Just take 2 to 5 minutes and write:

  • What went well today, whats are you grateful for or found enjoyment in.

  • What felt challenging, maybe any triggers, emotions, pushing outside your comfort zone or showing up regardless.

  • One thing you’ll do better tomorrow, how can you elevate and improve, even by 0.01%

This builds awareness and helps you stay accountable without being harsh on yourself, progress over perfection.

2. Plan your “non negotiables”

Pick 2 to 3 things you will do no matter what.

For example:

  • Hit your steps or go for your morning walk.

  • Prioritise your structured meals/snacks, or maybe make sure you prep our your food for the next days

  • Get to your session

Even on messy days, if you tick these off, you’re still moving forward!

3. Zoom out

When you feel like you’ve “messed up,” zoom out and look at your week, not just your day.

One off meal does not undo a full week of effort.

This stops the all or nothing spiral. It's about learning from undesirable decisions and making sure that awareness can continue to make us lean into better habits, better self-talk and creating a better life one tiny moment at a time.

4. Make things easier for yourself

Set your environment up to win:

  • Prioritise groceries and save time by prepping food ahead of time, instead of hoping motivation to whip it up for us

  • Have easy options ready and communicate with your coach or dietitian on what you enjoy and find work on days that feel tricky

  • Plan your training times, block them off and focus on just getting in and taking one set at a time!

The easier it is, the more consistent you’ll be. Simple structure always wins, on the good days and the flat ones.

5. Talk to yourself like someone you care about

This one matters more than anything else.

Because at the end of the day, you are the one you spend the most time with.

And if your inner voice is constantly negative, critical, or harsh… it makes everything feel harder than it needs to be.

You wouldn’t speak to your friend the way you sometimes speak to yourself.
You wouldn’t tell them they've ruined everything from one off meal.
You wouldn’t tell them they're not good enough because they didn't keep a promise to themselves and missed one session.

So why are you saying it to yourself?

The goal isn’t to lie to yourself or pretend everything is perfect.
It’s to respond in a way that actually helps you move forward.

Instead of:
“I’ve ruined it”

Try:
“That wasn’t my best, but I’m still showing up”
“I’m learning, not failing”
“Next meal, we’re back on track”

Same situation. Completely different energy.

And over time, that shift is what builds confidence, consistency, and trust in yourself.

The Main Mindset Motives to leave you with...

You don’t need to be perfect. You need to stay consistent.

Use simple tools like journalling, planning your non negotiables, and zooming out to keep yourself grounded.

Your mindset isn’t something you’re born with. It’s something you build through small daily actions.

Keep showing up and let every opportunity a moment to make that 0.01% difference within your mind so that your body can follow.
